I've also found that certain areas on the mat pick up better than others So if you move your image to that part of the mat it will pick it up. Be sure you have a nice solid outline on your images. If you do not, one tip suggested is to take a piece of clear acetate over your paper and take a black marker to draw your line around the outside of your image, scan it through the machine, take the plastic off, and then send it through again to make your cut.
